Ice Making and Ice Maintenance

The typical ice pad is layered as can be seen in the diagram below.

 

Important Considerations:

The thinner the ice layer is kept, the less energy the refrigeration plant will consume
(i.e. ideal = approximately 30mm).

 

The most common surface material is concrete

 

The most common cooling pipes are made of plastic

 

Insulation is very important to avoid freezing the soil (heating can also help to avoid this).
