Considerations for your Refrigeration Plant

A refrigeration plant is needed to make and maintain ice. The rink pipe collection mains can be laid along the short side of the rink or along the long side (lowering pumping costs).

The two most common compressor types are piston compressors and screw compressors.

Typical refrigerants used are R404A or ammonia.

Typical secondary coolants can be Salts (calcium chlorine CaCl2), Carbon dioxide (CO2), Glycols (ethylene glycol, propylene glycol), Formats (potassium formats, potassium acetates).

Refrigeration power needs to be defined, depending on ice surface area, freezing time requirement, dehumidification system, indoor air temperature.
